What is tooth whitening?
Tooth whitening can be an effective way of brightening your natural teeth without removing any tooth surface or require any dental treatment. You can expect to go a few natural shades lighter, this is dependant on the current shade of the teeth. Only natural teeth can whiten. If you currently have crowns, veneers or fillings on teeth you are considering whitening, this will not alter the shade as whitening does not whiten anything other than natural tooth surface.
What does it involve?
If you are considering tooth whitening, we would first need to ensure all current teeth, gums and mouth are healthy before carrying out cosmetic procedures. This can be done by booking your routine dental check with your dentist. Tooth whitening will never be done on teeth that are not deemed healthy.
Appointment 1
If you are eligible for tooth whitening, impressions will be taken to create custom made whitening trays that fit your mouth to carry out your at home whitening.
Appointment 2
The dentist will ensure that your custom made trays fit and feel comfortable. The dentist will demonstrate how to carry out the whitening at home. They will take a current shade and some clinical photographs.
Appointment 3
The dentist will follow up in 2-3 weeks to see how you have got on with the whitening, they will match your current shade and compare with where you started.
What is the cost involved?
Tooth whitening is not an NHS procedure, as this is a cosmetic procedure this will be charged privately.
Our at home whitening kit costs a total of £235.00.
Tips to keep teeth white and bright.
Here at St Anne’s Dental Clinic we think it is important to love your smile , here are our top tips how to care for your smile and love it!
- Attend regular dental check ups, we advise to be seen every 6 – 12 months. You can discuss with your dentist a recall that suits your needs and your oral hygiene.
- Maintain a healthy diet. We advise to stick to 3 meals per day, reduce sugar intake and don’t snack in-between meals. Avoid sugary snacks and drinks, these cause tooth cavities!
- Brush twice a day daily for at least 2 minutes. Don’t rinse after brushing, you want the toothpaste to soak into those teeth!
- Stop smoking – smoking causes staining and tooth discolouration.
- Be confident with your smile. We see so many smiles everyday, we love patients who are happy and confident in their smile. Wear yours with confidence!
